Imported from Ireland. A tunable 14 inch Bodhrán, by Paraic McNeela that produces a rich, deep tone and is not as intrusive when playing in sessions. These bodhrans are strongly recommended for intermediate players that don’t want to take over the show. Instead it produces a beautiful soft tone that sound great and bring the session together. This hand crafted rim has an added layer of wood to provide extra strength while tuning and a T-bar and a cut-out for even more playing comfort. The T-bar is removable if preferred. Paraic’s trademark tuning system, which has evolved enormously in the past fifteen years provides unbeatable tone control (pardon the pun) and flexible volume, making it perfect for every situation. With it’s beautifully finished signature black frame and the hand-cured, carefully treated goat skin, this is a bodhran made for life. This bodhran comes taped around the edges fora deeper effect.

Supplied with a free weighted tipper, padded bodhran gig bag and allen key.

The limited-edition Performance Bodhrán is something I am very proud of, I believe I’ve created a knockout and I’m thrilled with the reviews I’ve received so far. When handcrafting new bodhráns I always think of the player’s needs and wants, my main focus is to create a bodhrán which is easy and enjoyable to play, quick and easy to tune and produces an outstanding sound. I am satisfied and delighted that the Performance provides this.

It’s 5 inches deep and has eight hand tuners, the hand tuners are easy to grip and super fast to tune; very convenient for tuning during a performance. The goat skin was specifically selected by myself and is perfectly cured and treated giving great attack and sustain.

The Performance 13″ despite its smaller size produces the perfect tone and an impressive deep bass.

It also comes with a bodhrán canvas bag – a light carrier bag with plenty of pockets, perfect for carrying your bodhrán and beaters to sessions and gigs and free weighted beater.

Skins:

The skin is the most important part of the bodhrán. That’s why we only use the best goat skins. Our skins are sustainably sourced from healthy animals, carefully selected and examined for quality. They produce great depth of sound and are easy to tune.  We’ve done many blind tests and the results are staggering. Even non-bodhrán players can tell the difference between a good quality skin and a poor one – it’s that obvious. Our skins are naturally hand-cured in lime, which gives that all-important bass tone, then ‘pickled’ to close up the pores and finally stretched and left to sun dry, achieving a lovely clean ‘bleached’ finish. “Whatever way Paraic cures them and treats them, I can get everything I want out of them. There’s a lovely sound to them.” Jim Woods

Tuning:

The McNeela hand-tuning system allows for flexible tonal control so you get the perfect sound every time. The tuning system consists of 8 brass tuners and 1.25″ M4 knurled thumb screws. To keep it in peak condition we recommend you loosen the skin once you’ve finished playing your bodhrán.

Taping:

All of my bodhráns come with taped skin to help achieve that distinctive bass sound. Inspired by drummers using E-rings on their drum kits to dampen the tone, I found that taping the outer rim of the skin lowered the tone of the bodhrán and extended its harmonic range. Taping your bodhrán helps the bodhrán sound more like a musical instrument and ensures you’ll always be welcome at a session.
